How We Did It

Spacing has long been an outlet for engineers and designers to experiment and push the envelope. As the technology became more advanced, the racing organizations instituted rules and regulations to make the sport more competitive. There is one significant aspect that has been severely limited in almost all of the race series: testing. By limiting the amount of time the team can spend behind the wheel, the time spent at the office is more important than ever. Racing simulation allows engineers and designers the ability to run thousands of laps in a multitude of different configurations. Responses and metrics of these runs can provide valuable insight to how the car will handle on the real track.

Pyrix has extensive experience in creating racing simulation software for engineers and designers. We believe a number of techniques can be beneficial:

  • Development of a racing simulation. A philosophy that allows users to control the most important details of a variety of parts of the vehicle. Configurations can be stored in a database format for ease of integration with third-party software. Matrix regression techniques can also be included to allow for optimizations for key design factors.
  • Research of detailed damper (shock) simulation. Comprehensive models for a variety of different types of dampers allow engineers to predict responses without having to manufacture them.
  • Utilization of a quarter Car (Suspension) simulation. Models to represent the suspension response to various inputs.
